Amazon MSK Express Brokers Support Apache Kafka Version 4.2

Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (Amazon MSK) Express Brokers now supports Apache Kafka version 4.2, featuring Eligible Leader Replicas (ELR) enhancements for improved leader election correctness and a new consumer rebalance protocol for smoother group rebalances. Additionally, a new Streams Rebalance Protocol extends broker coordination capabilities to Kafka Streams for optimized task assignments.

What to do

  • Select version 4.2.x when creating a new cluster with Express Brokers.
  • Upgrade existing MSK Express Brokers with an in-place rolling update.
  • Refer to the Amazon MSK Developer Guide for more information.
