AWS Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server Updates

AWS has introduced cross-account and cross-role access for the AWS MCP Server, enabling developers to work across multiple AWS accounts and IAM roles within a single session without restarts. This update allows AI coding agents to switch profiles on each command, facilitating seamless transitions between accounts and roles.

What to do

  • Utilize multi-profile support for AI coding agents to work across accounts and roles.
  • Refer to the Multi-profile support section in the Agent Toolkit for AWS user guide for setup instructions.

The AWS MCP Server is currently available in the US East (N. Virginia) and Europe (Frankfurt) Regions.
