AWS Cost Explorer Historical Data Retention for Billing Groups

AWS has introduced historical data retention for accounts in billing groups in Cost Explorer. This allows customers using AWS Billing Conductor and Billing Transfer to map accounts to billing groups, providing access to billing data at pro forma rates supplied by the payer account or Bill-Transfer account.

Previously, billing group configurations restricted access to historical billing data (priced at AWS billable rates) for mapped accounts. Now, accounts in billing groups can view their historical billing data in Cost Explorer at their original billable rates. Customers already onboarded to Billing Conductor and Billing Transfer will have access to their historical data without any additional action required, ensuring reporting continuity.

Billing Transfer is available in all AWS Regions except GovCloud, China (Beijing), and China (Ningxia).

What to do

• Ensure accounts are mapped to billing groups using Billing Conductor and Billing Transfer.
• Access historical billing data in Cost Explorer at original billable rates.
• No additional action required for existing customers.
