AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) Updates

AWS DRS now supports the Amazon EBS volume initialization rate, enabling recovered volumes to reach full performance faster during drills and recoveries. This feature is particularly beneficial for I/O-intensive workloads like databases, ensuring consistent storage performance to meet recovery time objectives.

What to do

• Set the volume initialization rate on your DRS-managed EC2 launch template.
• DRS applies the rate automatically during recovery, preserving it across updates.
• If the rate cannot be applied, DRS completes recovery without it, ensuring no blockages.

This feature is available in all AWS Regions and environments where the EBS volume initialization rate is offered. You are charged per GB based on the full snapshot size and the specified rate. For more details, refer to the Amazon EBS pricing and the AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery User Guide.
