Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio Updates

Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports EMR on EKS as a compute resource for interactive Apache Spark sessions. This integration allows for large-scale distributed compute with automatic scaling, cost optimization, and containerized workload isolation directly within Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio. Customers can now transition between interactive analysis and production-level data processing jobs without moving their workload between platforms.

Additionally, EMR on EKS in Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now supports corporate identity through AWS Identity Center's trusted identity propagation. This enables seamless single sign-on and end-to-end data access traceability for interactive analytics sessions on EMR on EKS clusters. Data practitioners can access Glue Data Catalog resources using their corporate credentials from SageMaker Unified Studio's JupyterLab environment, while administrators maintain fine-grained access controls and audit trails.

What to do

  • Transition to EMR on EKS for interactive Apache Spark sessions within Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio.
  • Utilize AWS Identity Center for seamless single sign-on and data access traceability.
  • Access Glue Data Catalog resources using corporate credentials from JupyterLab.
