Amazon RDS for SQL Server Launches Memory-Optimized X2m Instances

Amazon RDS for SQL Server now supports memory-optimized X2m database instances, based on the Amazon EC2 X2iedn instance. These instances offer the Amazon RDS Optimize CPU feature, reducing SQL Server software licensing costs by 50% or more for memory-intensive workloads.

  • vCPUs: Up to 64
  • Memory: Up to 4 TB
  • IOPS: Up to 256K
  • Memory to vCPU Ratio: Up to 32:1

What to do

  • Modify existing RDS database instances or create new ones via the RDS Management Console, AWS SDK, or CLI.
  • Purchase X2m instances using On-Demand pricing or with AWS Database Savings Plan.
  • Check Amazon RDS for SQL Server Pricing for current pricing and regional availability.
