Amazon OpenSearch Service supports Managed Prometheus and agent tracing

Amazon OpenSearch Service Updates
Amazon OpenSearch Service now offers a unified observability experience, combining metrics, logs, traces, and AI agent tracing in one interface. This release includes native integration with Amazon Managed Service for Prometheus and comprehensive agent tracing capabilities, addressing cost and complexity issues with observability platforms.
Key features include:
- Query Prometheus metrics using native PromQL syntax alongside logs and traces in the OpenSearch UI observability workspace.
- New application monitoring workflows powered by RED metrics (Rate, Errors, Duration) and AI agent tracing using OpenTelemetry GenAI semantic conventions.
- Correlate slow traces to application logs, overlay Prometheus metrics on service dashboards, and trace LLM agent execution without switching tools.
This release is available in 20 AWS regions, including US East, US West, Asia Pacific, Europe, Canada, and South America.
What to do
- Explore the new unified observability experience in OpenSearch UI.
