Amazon OpenSearch Service introduces capacity optimized blue/green deployments

Amazon OpenSearch Service
Introducing a Capacity Optimized option for blue/green deployments, allowing domain updates even with less than required instance capacity. This new option performs updates in incremental batches, reducing the number of additional instances needed during the process.
Blue/green deployments create an idle copy of the original environment, apply updates, and route traffic to the new environment once complete, minimizing downtime and preserving the original environment as a fallback. Previously, these deployments required 100% instance capacity upfront.
New Features
- Capacity Optimized Option: Allows updates in incremental batches if full capacity is unavailable, reducing the number of additional instances needed.
- Two Deployment Strategies: Choose between Full Swap (default, requires full capacity upfront) and Capacity Optimized (attempts full capacity deployment first, falls back to batch deployment if insufficient capacity).
What to do
- Select your preferred deployment option in the OpenSearch Service console or API.
- Consider using the Capacity Optimized option for clusters with 30 or more nodes.
