New AWS CUR 2.0 features: EC2 ODCR and Capacity Blocks for ML monitoring

New CUR 2.0 Columns for Capacity Reservations
AWS has introduced new columns and enhanced granularity in CUR 2.0, offering improved visibility into the cost and usage of capacity reservations like EC2 On-Demand Capacity Reservation (ODCR) and EC2 Capacity Blocks for ML. This update allows customers to calculate utilization and coverage of capacity reservations, identify unused reservations for cost optimization, and attribute costs to resource owners.
With the new feature, customers can determine which portion of EC2 instance costs and usage are covered by specific capacity reservations, down to hourly resource-level granularity. CUR 2.0 labels capacity reservation-related line items as Reserved, Used, or Unused, facilitating coverage and utilization calculations.
This feature is available in all commercial AWS Regions, excluding AWS GovCloud (US) Regions and China Regions.
What to do
- Review the new CUR 2.0 columns for capacity reservations.
- Calculate utilization and coverage of capacity reservations.
- Identify unused reservations for cost optimization.
