Karpenter now supports Amazon Application Recovery Controller zonal shift

Amazon EKS Supports ARC Zonal Shift and Zonal Autoshift
Amazon EKS now supports Amazon Application Recovery Controller (ARC) zonal shift and zonal autoshift when using the open source Karpenter project for compute provisioning. This feature helps manage and coordinate recovery for applications across AWS Regions and Availability Zones (AZs), enhancing Kubernetes application availability by automating the process of shifting in-cluster network traffic away from an impaired AZ.
With ARC zonal shift, you can temporarily mitigate an AZ impairment by redirecting in-cluster network traffic away from the impacted AZ. ARC zonal autoshift provides a fully automated experience, allowing AWS to manage the process on your behalf, including practice runs to verify cluster functionality with one less AZ.
What to do
- Set the ENABLE_ZONAL_SHIFT setting in your Karpenter settings to enable zonal shift support.
- Review the Karpenter documentation and the ARC zonal shift documentation for more information.
