Amazon OpenSearch Serverless Time Series Collections

AWS has introduced support for time series collections on the next generation of Amazon OpenSearch Serverless. This feature allows for the ingestion, storage, and analysis of logs, metrics, traces, and event data without the need for cluster provisioning or management. Key benefits include automatic absorption of ingest spikes, fast querying of recent data, and cost-effective storage of historical data.

Time series collections feature a new, lower-cost warm storage tier, in addition to the existing hot storage tier, enabling customers to retain infrequently accessed data at reduced costs. With up to 100 TB of hot storage per collection, this service is suitable for high-volume observability workloads such as application monitoring, security analytics, and IoT telemetry. Alerting and anomaly detection capabilities are also now available, providing notifications about issues and the ability to identify unusual patterns in log and event data without additional tools.

What to do

  • Explore the new warm storage tier for cost savings on infrequently accessed data.
  • Utilize the new alerting and anomaly detection features for proactive monitoring.
  • Review the OpenSearch Serverless pricing for details on the new storage costs.
