AWS Lambda announces Lambda Web Functions

AWS Lambda Announces Lambda Web Functions
AWS Lambda introduces Lambda Web Functions, a new serverless compute primitive for handling HTTP requests directly. Your code listens on a port and manages requests using familiar frameworks like Express or Hono, without adapters or custom configurations. This enables serving various workloads such as AI inference endpoints, SSR web apps, streaming API endpoints, microservices, and webhooks.
With this launch, existing Lambda functions are renamed to Lambda Event Functions, a naming change that requires no code changes or redeployments.
Key Features
- Direct handling of HTTP requests
- Use of familiar frameworks like Express or Hono
- Pay for active CPU time and memory usage
- Support for Node.js runtime
- Single warm execution environment for multiple requests
- Native HTTP streaming for incremental results
- Multi-Region routing for low-latency serving
- Amazon VPC connectivity
What to do
- Create and configure Lambda Web Functions using AWS Lambda API, AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, AWS SAM, AWS CDK, or AWS SDKs
- Deploy once and serve requests from the nearest Region
