AWS Glue Data Catalog now supports business context and semantic search (Preview)

AWS Glue Data Catalog Preview Release
AWS has introduced a preview of business context and semantic search for AWS Glue Data Catalog, enabling users to discover and understand data by semantic meaning. This feature allows enrichment of Glue Data Catalog tables with glossary terms and custom metadata fields, and the addition of skills to direct agents to additional data context.
The new Glue Search API facilitates finding data by semantic meaning, grounding AI agents in trusted definitions. The search capability supports finding tables by structure and business meaning, enhancing data exploration and reasoning.
What to do
- Use the new search capability to find tables by structure and business meaning.
- Install the aws-data-analytics plugin from the Agent Toolkit for AWS repository on GitHub to connect an AI agent to Glue Data Catalog.
Business context and semantic search for AWS Glue Data Catalog is available in preview in the following AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), and Europe (Ireland).
