AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) launches new test scenarios for partial failures

AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) Updates
AWS FIS now offers two new scenarios to test how applications handle partial disruptions within and across Availability Zones (AZs). These scenarios help detect and mitigate gray failures, which are more common than complete outages.
New Scenarios
- AZ: Application Slowdown - Tests for increased latency and degraded performance within a single AZ.
- Cross-AZ: Traffic Slowdown - Tests how multi-AZ applications handle traffic disruptions between AZs.
These scenarios allow targeting specific portions of application traffic for realistic testing of partial disruptions.
What to do
- Access the new scenarios through the FIS scenario library in the AWS Management Console.
- Test your applications for partial disruptions to validate observability setups and tune alarm thresholds.
- Practice critical operational decisions like AZ evacuation.
