Amazon Application Recovery Controller (ARC) Region Switch Updates

ARC now offers new execution blocks to automate database scaling and failover for multi-Region workloads:

  • Amazon Aurora Serverless Scaling Execution Block: Automates right-sizing and scaling of the secondary cluster during failover.
  • Amazon Aurora Provisioned Scaling Execution Block: Similar automation for provisioned Aurora clusters.
  • Amazon Neptune Global Database Failover Execution Block: Automates both planned switchover and unplanned failover scenarios.

These blocks support cross-account orchestration across multiple accounts and Regions.

What to do

  • Review the new execution blocks in the documentation.
  • Update your multi-Region application recovery plans to include these new blocks.
  • Test the new execution blocks in a non-production environment.
