Amazon S3 Object Lock variable retention with event holds is now available in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

Amazon S3 Object Lock Updates
Amazon S3 Object Lock now supports variable retention with event holds in AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West). This feature allows you to apply write-once-read-many (WORM) protection to objects based on future events, such as contract closings or audit completions.
With event holds, you can specify a retention duration for an object, and S3 will protect the object until the hold is released. Unlike legal holds, event holds ensure WORM compliance for the specified retention period after the triggering event, helping you meet event-based retention requirements without retaining data longer than necessary.
What to do
- Review the AWS Storage Blog post for more details.
- Read the S3 Object Lock overview page.
- Consult the S3 documentation for implementation guidance.
