Amazon Route 53 Accelerated Recovery for DNS Records

Amazon Route 53 is introducing an accelerated recovery option for managing DNS records in public hosted zones. This feature targets a 60-minute recovery time objective (RTO) for regaining the ability to make DNS changes if AWS services in US East (N. Virginia) become temporarily unavailable.

Customers in banking, financial technology (FinTech), and software-as-a-service (SaaS) sectors, in particular, need a predictable and short RTO for meeting business continuity and disaster recovery objectives. With accelerated recovery enabled, you can make changes to Route 53 public DNS records soon after an interruption, often in less than one hour.

What to do

  • Enable the accelerated recovery option on your Route 53 public hosted zone.
  • Prepare for potential interruptions by understanding the recovery process.
  • Review the documentation for more details on the accelerated recovery option.
