Amazon RDS Per Snapshot Billing

Starting today, Amazon RDS supports per snapshot billing for Amazon RDS snapshots. This feature allows you to see the cost of each individual snapshot, rather than an aggregated view at the database instance level.

Previously, RDS snapshot charges were aggregated at the database instance level on the Cost and Usage report as well as the Cost Explorer. With per snapshot billing, you can now use cost allocation tags on your snapshots to see exactly how much each snapshot costs, giving you a better understanding of your backups spend and budgets. Per snapshot billing is enabled by default on all RDS snapshots for no additional charge.

What to do

• Utilize cost allocation tags on your snapshots to monitor individual snapshot costs.
• Review your Cost and Usage report and Cost Explorer for detailed snapshot costs.
