Amazon RDS for SQL Server

Now supports cross-account snapshot sharing for database instances with additional storage volumes. Customers can scale database storage up to 256 TiB by adding up to three storage volumes, each with up to 64 TiB, in addition to the primary storage volume. This feature allows creating, sharing, and copying database snapshots across AWS accounts for compliance and diagnostics.

Cross-account snapshots preserve the storage layout of the original database instance, including additional storage volumes. Authorized users in the target account can restore, copy, or create independent backups under different IAM access permissions.

What to do

  • Use the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDKs to start using this feature.
  • Refer to the Amazon RDS User Guide for detailed instructions on sharing, copying, and working with storage in RDS for SQL Server.
