Amazon RDS for Oracle

Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports bare metal instances with Bring Your Own License (BYOL) for Oracle Standard Edition 2. Available instances include M7i, R7i, X2iedn, X2idn, X2iezn, M6i, M6id, M6in, R6i, R6id, and R6in, priced at 25% less than equivalent virtualized instances.

Using bare metal instances can reduce commercial database license and support costs due to full visibility into CPU cores and sockets of the underlying server. Most instances have 2 sockets, while db.m7i.metal-24xl and db.r7i.metal-24xl have a single socket. Consult your legal or licensing partner to confirm eligibility for cost reductions.

What to do

  • Review Amazon RDS for Oracle Pricing for configurations, pricing, and region availability.
  • Consult your legal or licensing partner to determine if you can use bare metal instances with Oracle Standard Edition 2.
