Amazon MSK introduces KRaft support for Express Brokers with Apache Kafka v3.9

Amazon MSK Express Brokers now support Kafka v3.9
Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) now supports Apache Kafka version 3.9 for Express Brokers, introducing KRaft support. This new consensus protocol eliminates the dependency on Apache ZooKeeper for metadata management, shifting it to a group of controllers within Kafka. Metadata is now stored and replicated as topics within Kafka brokers, enhancing propagation speed.
New Express Broker clusters using Kafka v3.9 will automatically use KRaft. Upgrading existing clusters to v3.9 will be available later. MSK Express Brokers with Kafka v3.9 are available in all supported AWS regions.
What to do
- Create a new Express Broker cluster.
- Select Kafka version 3.9 in the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDKs.
