Amazon Kinesis Data Streams On-demand Advantage Mode Update

Amazon Kinesis Data Streams now offers enhanced control over stream capacity with On-demand Advantage mode. This update includes the ability to scale down ingest capacity using warm throughput, providing flexibility to manage stream write throughput up or down.

With this feature, you can set a lower warm throughput value to scale down ingest capacity. The stream will adjust to the requested capacity or the amount needed to support peak data ingest usage in the last hour, whichever is higher. This ensures optimal stream-processing performance and cost efficiency.

What to do

  • Set a lower warm throughput value on your on-demand stream to scale down ingest capacity.
  • Monitor your stream's performance and adjust the warm throughput value as needed.

Warm throughput scale-down is available at no additional cost for all on-demand streams with On-demand Advantage mode enabled. For more information, see the Amazon Kinesis Data Streams Developer Guide and Update a stream documentation. For pricing details, see the Amazon Kinesis Data Streams pricing page.

The feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon Kinesis Data Streams On-demand Advantage is supported.
