Amazon ECS Now Supports Amazon S3 Files for EC2 Launch Type

Amazon ECS now supports Amazon S3 Files for tasks running on the Amazon EC2 launch type, enabling customers to connect their containerized applications directly to data in Amazon S3 as a shared file system. This feature allows file-based applications, AI agents, and data processing workloads to run on S3 data without code changes or data duplication.

S3 Files, built on Amazon EFS, provides a shared file system that connects AWS compute resources directly with data in Amazon S3, offering full file system semantics and low-latency performance without data leaving S3. This support is available in all AWS commercial Regions and the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

What to do

  • Mount an Amazon S3 Files volume in your Amazon ECS tasks to read and write data in an S3 bucket using standard file system operations.
  • No application code changes or data migration required.
