Amazon EC2 R8in, R8ib, R8idn, and R8idb Instances Available

Amazon EC2 R8in, R8ib, R8idn, and R8idb instances are now available in the AWS Asia Pacific (Tokyo) and Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland) regions. These instances are powered by custom sixth generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors and feature the latest sixth generation AWS Nitro cards, delivering up to 43% better compute performance per vCPU compared to previous generation R6in and R6idn instances.

Key Features

  • R8in and R8idn Instances: Deliver 600 Gbps network bandwidth, ideal for real-time big data analytics, distributed web scale in-memory caches, caching fleets for AI/ML clusters, and Telco applications.
  • R8ib and R8idb Instances: Deliver up to 300 Gbps EBS bandwidth, ideal for high-performance file systems, NoSQL databases, large commercial databases, data lakes, and NoSQL databases.
  • EFA Networking: Supports Elastic Fabric Adapter networking on 48xlarge, 96xlarge, metal-48xl, and metal-96xl sizes, enabling lower latency and improved cluster performance.

Regions Available

  • US East (N. Virginia, Ohio)
  • US West (Oregon)
  • Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
  • Europe (Spain, Frankfurt, Ireland)

What to do

  • Check availability in your preferred region.
  • Consider using these instances for workloads requiring high network or EBS bandwidth.
  • Utilize EFA networking for tightly coupled clusters.
