Amazon EC2 Storage Optimized I8g Instances Now Available
AWS has announced the general availability of Amazon EC2 Storage Optimized I8g instances in Europe (London), Asia Pacific (Singapore), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo) regions. These instances offer the best performance for storage-intensive workloads.
Key Features
- Powered by AWS Graviton4 processors: Up to 60% better compute performance compared to previous generation I4g instances.
- AWS Nitro SSDs: Up to 65% better real-time storage performance per TB, 50% lower storage I/O latency, and 60% lower storage I/O latency variability.
- AWS Nitro System: Offloads CPU virtualization, storage, and networking functions to dedicated hardware and software, enhancing performance and security.
Optimized for
- Transactional, real-time, distributed databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Hbase, NoSQL solutions like Aerospike, MongoDB, ClickHouse, Apache Druid).
- Real-time analytics platforms (e.g., Apache Spark, data lakehouse, AI LLM pre-processing for training).
Instance Details
- Sizes: 10 different sizes up to 48xlarge, including one metal size.
- Memory: Up to 1.5 TiB.
- Local Storage: Up to 45 TB.
- Network Performance: Up to 100 Gbps bandwidth, 60 Gbps dedicated bandwidth for Amazon EBS.
