AWS Auto Scaling Predictive Scaling Now Available in Six New Regions

AWS Auto Scaling now supports predictive scaling in six additional regions: Asia Pacific (Hyderabad), Asia Pacific (Melbourne), Israel (Tel Aviv), Canada West (Calgary), Europe (Spain), and Europe (Zurich). This feature allows you to proactively scale your Auto Scaling groups (ASGs) based on upcoming demand, reducing over-provisioning and lowering EC2 costs while maintaining application responsiveness.

Predictive Scaling is ideal for applications with recurring demand patterns, such as early morning spikes. It learns from past patterns and launches instances ahead of predicted demand, ensuring instances have time to warm up. This feature complements existing Auto Scaling policies like Target Tracking or Simple Scaling, enabling your applications to scale based on both real-time metrics and historical patterns.

You can preview Predictive Scaling using the “Forecast Only” mode. It is available through AWS CLI, EC2 Auto Scaling Management Console, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS SDKs. For more information, visit the Predictive Scaling page in the EC2 Auto Scaling documentation.

What to do

  • Enable Predictive Scaling in your ASGs for the new regions.
  • Preview Predictive Scaling using the “Forecast Only” mode.
  • Integrate Predictive Scaling with existing Auto Scaling policies.
