Hello, I'm Dylan, a cloud developer at West Loop Strategy, an AWS partner. Today, we are going to discuss the importance of implementing role level security in QuickSight to follow the security standard of lease privilege when utilizing RLS.

In QuickSight, a Dataset needs to be created containing either usernames or user groups, as well as all of the fields that require restrictions. The RLS Dataset is then attached to the Datasets you built out from your Data Source, which your Dashboards are created from. Remember row level security can only be implemented on the Dataset layer. Once implemented, if a user tries to view a dashboard and they have not been added to the RLS Dataset, they will not be able to view any of the data.

Another key factor is when setting up an admin level account that needs to have full access to certain data fields, leave the row value empty for that user. If the user has permissions for multiple row values, make sure each one is separated by a comma.
